Texas Department Announces upcoming Regional Public Transportation Planning meeting: Barriers, Constraints, & Solutions: Preparing to report to the Texas Transportation Commission.

From Kelly Kirkland, the Planning and Support Section Director of TxDOT's Public Transportation Division:

This meeting will provide an opportunity to review the barriers and constraints that TxDOT received from Regions around the state, talk about the upcoming presentation at the November 16th Commission meeting, and discuss future action items. An agenda for the November 8th meeting will be forthcoming in the near future.

Date: Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

Time: 10am- 3pm

Location: 125 East 11th Street (Greer Building), Austin Texas.

Shuttle service will be provided from the TxDOT offices at 150 Riverside to the Greer Building starting at 9:15am, then again at 9:25 am, and the last one leaving at 9:35 am. (Parking near the Greer Building is tight)

Public Comment Period for feedback relating to JARC and New Freedom Initiative Programs pushed back one month

This in from Kris Dudley at TXDOT:

"Dear Friends - the original time line for rules to be posted for public comment on the New Freedom and Job Access/Reverse Commute programs scheduled the draft rules to go before the Texas Transportation Commission on June 29, 2006. The posting date has changed, the rules will be posted in the Texas Register for public review and comment after the Commission meeting on July 27, 2006. Please share this information with your respective constituency groups. TxDOT looks forward to comments on these very important transit program opportunities."

JARC- Definition

The purpose of the DFW job access/reverse commute (JARC) program is to develop transportation services designed to transport individuals without access to transportation, and to develop transportation services for residents to access employment opportunities.

New Freedom Initiative- Definition

The “New Freedom Initiative” is composed of the following key components:

  • Is a New Formula Program

    Enhances Transportation for People with Disabilities (PWD)

    Provides "New" Public Transportation Services

    Also Provides alternatives to Public Transportation "beyond the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)"

    Has an Employment Focus

The Texas Department of Transportation will be holding their first public hearing for the Texas Rail System Plan (TRSP), a "continuing, comprehensive, and intermodal statewide planning process ...that facilitates the efficient, economic movement of people and goods in all areas of the state."

This means, among other essential things, that the Texas Transportation Commission will be considering the expansion and extension of passenger rail in Texas.

TXDOT will hold a public hearing on Friday, September 23, 2005 , at 10:00 a.m., at the Greer Building, 125 East 11th Street, Big Hearing Room, 1st Floor, Austin, Texas, 78701 to receive public comments on the proposed 2005 Texas Rail System Plan (TRSP).
